Clothes for a sauna visit

Short answer: Around a sauna you move between very hot and very cold air, and your clothes need to handle both. Something that dries quickly is the only requirement, and a spare set in your bag does the rest.

You switch between extremes

Eighty degrees inside and ten degrees outside come a few minutes apart, and a thick layer never gets the chance to dry in between. It turns heavy and cold when you put it on after a spell outdoors. A thin layer copes better. Bamboo joggers for women are comfortable between rounds while you sit and rest.

Moisture is the real challenge

Everything gets damp in a sauna area, even what you packed dry in a bag. The steam and wet towels see to that. Bring one more set than you think and pack it in a closed bag. Choose socks for women in two pairs, so you have a dry pair left for the trip home.

The body keeps cooling after the last round

The body keeps giving off heat for twenty minutes after the last round, and during that time you still sweat into your clothes. Change straight away and the dry clothes get damp from the inside. Wait a little, sit calmly in your robe and let the body settle. See women's most popular soft pieces for afterwards.

Between rounds

Many sit outside or in a rest room between rounds. Something loose and soft that does not cling to damp skin is welcome there. Tight edges and stiff fabrics are unpleasant when the skin is warm. Choose something roomy that is easy to take on and off when you go back in.

Pack two sets

One set for between rounds and one completely dry set for the trip home is the simplest answer. The first will get damp, and that is fine. The second stays dry in a closed bag until the end. Then you have something pleasant to put on when you are done, instead of pulling on clammy clothes.

Your feet get damp

You walk barefoot or in sandals on wet floors the whole time, and your feet rarely get fully dry. A pair of socks between rounds keeps you warm, but it gets damp. A fresh pair at the end makes a big difference on the way home. Dry your feet well before you put the last pair on.

The trip home

When you leave the sauna, the body can still feel warm, but the skin cools fast in cold air. Wet hair makes it worse. Put the dry set on once the body has settled, and bring a hat if your hair is not dry. That way the trip home becomes a calm end to the day.

Wash afterwards

Clothes that have sat in a damp bag should come out as soon as you get home. Hang them up and wash them according to the care label. Towels and robes dry best hanging freely. That avoids odours, and the bag is ready for the next visit without smelling of the last one.
