The fabric is creased after drying

Short answer: Wrinkles after drying come from hard spinning and from clothes lying crumpled while they dry. Lower spin speed and a good shake before hanging remove most of it.

The spin locks in the creases

A high spin speed presses fabric into tight creases, and those creases dry in place if the laundry stays that way. It shows most on smooth fabrics, such as a bamboo hoodie for women. Choose a lower speed on the machine, and the creases come out smaller and easier to smooth.

Time in the basket matters

If laundry sits in the basket for an hour after washing, the creases have already started to set. Wet fabric takes the shape it lies in. Take everything out straight away, socks included, such as bamboo socks for women, and hang it while it is still damp and soft.

Shake each piece first

The most useful step takes seconds. Lift out one piece at a time and shake it hard a few times so the fibres come apart. Then pull gently at seams and edges so the fabric lies flat. It sounds small, but it changes how the laundry looks once dry and saves work later.

Hang it damp and in shape

Hang clothes while still damp, and use hangers for larger pieces. Avoid pegs on shoulders and waistbands, as they leave marks. Hang pieces by the side seams or over a line instead. Knitwear such as a bamboo bra sits best flat or over the bar of a drying rack, so its own weight does not pull it out of shape.

Choose a lower spin speed

Eight hundred revolutions is a good compromise for most items between drying time and wrinkles. Higher speeds remove more water but also press creases in harder. If you have time, pick a lower number for smooth fabrics and a higher one for towels. One setting saves both time and ironing.

Do not overfill the drum

When the drum is packed full, laundry cannot move and gets pressed into a dense lump. That gives deeper creases and an uneven wash. Leave some air in the drum so water and clothes can move freely. The laundry then comes out cleaner, with smaller creases before you have even hung it up.

Steam instead of an iron

If a crease remains, steam often solves it. Hang the piece on a hanger in the bathroom while you shower and let the warm moisture loosen the fold. Then pull the fabric gently smooth by hand. It is milder than a hot iron, and you avoid scorching fine knit. Always check the care label first.

Fewer wrinkles from now on

Put it together as one routine: lower spin speed, out of the machine at once, a shake, then hang. It takes a few minutes and is easier to keep up than ironing a whole pile. After a few weeks it happens almost by itself, and the laundry hangs smooth when you take it down.

Frequently asked questions

Does ironing afterwards help

Yes, but it is easier to avoid creases than to remove them. Shake the laundry and hang it damp, and you will rarely need an iron at all.

Which spin speed is best

Eight hundred revolutions is a good compromise between drying time and wrinkles. For smooth fabrics you can go lower if the creases otherwise set too hard.

Can steam replace ironing

Often yes. Hang the clothes in the bathroom while you shower and let the warm moisture loosen the creases. Then pull the fabric gently smooth by hand.
