Checklist at the change of season

Short answer: Wash everything, pack the last season away in sealed boxes, sort out what you did not wear, and write down what is missing for the coming season. That way the new season starts with a wardrobe holding only what you actually wear.

Wash before packing away

Stains and sweat set in over six months in a box and are hard to remove afterwards. Wash everything before it is packed away, even pieces worn only once. Let the clothes dry completely before they go down, so no damp or smell builds up in the box. This applies to bamboo sweat clothes too.

Pack in sealed boxes

A sealed box with a lid keeps out dust, damp and insects. Fold the clothes loosely and put the heaviest at the bottom so lighter pieces are not pressed flat. Label the box with its contents and season. Then you will not have to open every box to find the right one when the weather turns again.

Sort while everything is out

You will never get a better overview than now, with everything laid out at once. Pick up each piece and ask whether you wore it last season. Anything unworn goes in a pile of its own. A quick comparison with the most popular pieces from Copenhagen Bamboo can show which types you actually use most.

Check for wear and small faults

While the clothes are out, look for loose seams, small holes and slack waistbands. It is easier to repair now than to find out in six months when you want to wear the piece. Put anything that needs sewing at the top of the box or fix it straight away. What cannot be saved is sorted out.

Write down the gaps

A short list makes the next purchase focused. Note what has worn out, what no longer fits and what you missed last season. If you ran short of a warm top, for example, write it down. A bamboo hoodie for men may be exactly what is missing when autumn arrives.

Bring out the new season

Once the old season is packed away, bring out the box for the coming one. Air the clothes or wash them if they smell a little of the box. Try on the pieces you are unsure about so you know they still fit. Then the wardrobe is ready and you know exactly what you have to choose from.

Give unworn pieces one last chance

What you did not wear for a whole season is rarely worn in the next. Still, put it in a separate bag and note the date. If you have taken nothing out by the time the season comes round again, you can pass it on with a clear mind. That makes the decision easier than choosing on the spot.

Make it a fixed routine

Twice a year, in spring and autumn, is usually enough. Mark a day in the calendar so it does not get pushed back. The more often you do it, the quicker it goes, because the boxes are already in order and last time's list shows what tends to run out.
