What to do about a fault in a seam

Short answer: Take a photo of the seam, note how long you have had the item, and write to the shop. A stitching fault within the first year is usually covered, and the better you document it, the faster the case can be settled.

The photo shows the problem

A close-up of the seam says more than a long description. Take it in daylight, ideally by a window, and hold the phone steady so the threads are sharp. Take a photo of the whole item as well, so the shop can see where the fault is, also on your men's bamboo undershirts.

Timing matters

A fault that shows up in the first months is almost always a production fault. The more time passes, the harder it is to tell a fault from wear. So note when you bought the item from the men's range, and when you first noticed the seam coming open.

Do not keep using the item

An item that is worn after the fault is found can be rejected as wear, because the hole grows and the seam unravels further. Put your men's bamboo socks aside until the case is settled, and do not wash them again before you hear from the shop.

What a stitching fault looks like

A stitching fault is usually a seam that opens in a place with no strain, or a thread that comes loose so the stitches release in a row. That is different from a hole in the fabric itself, where the fibres are worn or torn. Describe what you see as precisely as you can.

What to write

Give the order number, purchase date and a short description of the fault, and attach the photos. Mention how you have washed the item, as it shows it was cared for as instructed. Keep the message short and factual, so the shop can decide quickly.

What happens next

The shop reviews the photos and replies with the next step. Sometimes the item must be sent back for inspection, other times the photos are enough. For a valid fault you usually get a new item or your money back, depending on what is possible and what you prefer.

Protect the seams in the wash

Seams last longest when clothes are washed gently. Turn them inside out, wash at a low temperature, and use a laundry bag for socks and underwear. Skip the tumble dryer, as heat and movement strain thread and elastic more than a drying rack does.

Small faults you can fix yourself

A single loose thread that has not opened the seam can often be secured with a needle and thread. Only do this if you do not plan to claim, because a self repaired item can be hard to get covered afterwards. If in doubt, write to the shop first.

Frequently asked questions

How long are you covered

In Denmark, two years from purchase for an original defect. Faults that appear early in that period are usually the easiest to get accepted.

What should you include

Order number, purchase date and a photo of the fault. A photo of the whole item and a short note on washing make it even easier to handle.

Is a seam that opens always a fault

Not always, but within the first months it usually is. After long use and many washes it can also be normal wear.
