Four sizes and what that means

The span from 30/33 to 45/49 covers everything from a child's foot to large men's sizes. In practice that means the whole household can use the same model, and that there is only one kind of black sock to keep track of in the drawer. Choose by your normal shoe size, and take the smaller of two if you are on the borderline. Bamboo gives a little during the first few wears.

The job of the black sock

A black sock should draw as little attention as possible. It has to fill the gap between the trouser hem and the shoe, it has to stay up, and it must not fade and go grey after two months. On the last point there really is a difference. Cheap black socks are often dyed so thinly that they turn grey after a few washes, whereas a proper dye bath holds the colour through the season.

That is precisely why it is the model we sell most of. It is used for uniforms and workwear, where black is a requirement, it is used with suits, and it is used every day by people who cannot be bothered to think about socks at all. There are no stripes, no pattern and no logos on the leg.

The material

75% bamboo viscose, 23% polyester and 2% elastane. Bamboo viscose is a smooth, round fibre. It does not scratch the skin, and you notice it straight away when the sock goes on, especially if you are used to cotton. At the same time the fibre moves moisture away from the skin and out into the fabric, where it can evaporate, and that is why the sock can be worn a whole day in a closed work shoe without ending up clammy.

The polyester provides the durability in the heel and toe. The elastane keeps the leg up. Without those two a pure viscose sock would be softer for the first week and after that hang around the ankle. The fibre itself and what it can do we have gathered on facts about bamboo.

The socks are OEKO-TEX Standard 100 certified, cert. no. 976-15301, that is tested for substances harmful to health in every single part.

Five identical pairs

Five pairs in the same colour is the most practical way to buy black socks. You have a clean pair every day of a working week, you can pair them up blind after washing, and you do not end up with a collection of odd socks at the bottom of the drawer. If a pair wears through at the heel, it goes out on its own without ruining a set, and the price per pair is lower than buying singly.

Washing

40 degrees together with the rest of your dark laundry. Fabric softener should be avoided, as it settles in the fibres and slows exactly the moisture transport the sock was bought for. Air drying extends the life. See washing and care.
