The maths behind five pairs
Underpants are the garment that gets changed every single day, and that is why the number matters more than anything else. With three pairs you have to wash twice a week. With five pairs the whole week can run on one machine load, and with two packs the drawer lasts another week if the laundry slips. It is the kind of purchase you only make properly once.
The seams sit on the inside of the legs
The seams on the legs sit on the inside, where they do not rub against the thigh as you walk. That is the detail that decides whether a pair of underpants is noticeable after an hour of walking or not. The legs are long enough to stay put instead of riding up, and the waistband holds without digging into the skin.
The fabric
The underpants are made of 70 % bamboo viscose, 25 % organic cotton and 5 % elastane. The bamboo viscose is smooth and cool against the skin and moves moisture away from the body, so it evaporates instead of staying put, and that is exactly what is needed in a layer that sits close all day. The certification
The underpants are OEKO-TEX Standard 100 certified under cert. no. BJ020 142441. The certificate covers the entire product, that is, the elastic in the waistband and the sewing thread as well, and on the clothes that sit closest to the body it is the most important label to look for.
The waistband
The waistband is the part you notice first and last in the day. It is wide enough to spread the pressure instead of gathering it in a narrow strip, and it is stitched down all the way round, so it does not roll up into a cord over the hip. It is the kind of detail you only notice when it is missing.
Black for the whole week
Five identical black pairs mean that nothing has to be chosen in the morning, and that everything can be washed together with the rest of your dark clothes. Black also shows wear least over time, and the smooth surface of the bamboo viscose does not form the small pale bobbles that make black cotton look worn after a season.
Washing
Wash the underpants at 40 degrees together with your dark clothes, avoid fabric softener, and let them air dry. Fabric softener settles as a film on the fibres and makes the fabric worse at moving moisture. All the advice is under washing and care.
Size
